Hello, Brothers and Sisters:
First, let me thank all our members who worked or filled in at Houston fire stations during the funeral for HFD Capt. Grady Burke. 20 of our firefighters came forward and worked so HFD members could attend.
Senate Bill 1433 was vetoed by Gov. Rick Perry. This bill related to the conditions of employment for firefighters in certain entities and districts. Some Emergency Service Districts were concerned with some financial issues with this bill. I have been promised this bill will be a top priority in the 2007 Legislative Session.
During the TSFFA convention in Galveston, members of Local 3921 gathered to honor Brother Roland Garcia, who resigned to pursue other employment opportunities. This event was held at the parents home of Brother Kevin Rodgers. I wish to thank all of them for their hospitality.
This years convention recorded the largest attendance ever. Some of the hot topics were:
Bunker gear life expectancy
Physical fitness
Political Action Committee funds
Muscular dystrophy Association and Fill-the-boot
At-will employee rights
Next years convention will be held in Wichita Falls.
Our local will again hit the streets to fill the boot for MDA. This will occur on Labor Day weekend so everybody please plan ahead.
This years golf tournament will be held October 12 at the Lake Windcrest Golf Club. The tournament will be renamed in honor of Brother Marc Hudson and a scholarship will be awarded. More details to follow.
The planning stages for a citizens Fire and First Aid awareness class are in the works. This class will happen later this year. More details will follow.
The Villages Independence Festival was a big success this year. My thanks to all our members for their hard work with cooking and serving.
